Would you like to be in a book about Arsenal?

I got this interesting request from Teabag this morning... If you'd like to help or contribute, you can contact him via e-mail at chrisathanasi at hotmail.com (or PM him on the Forum). Sounds like an interesting project so help him out if you can! -- NY Gooner

Dear Fellow Gooners,

I am in the process of researching material for a book I am writing about Arsenal and their fans and I was wondering if any of you would like to appear in it?

Following the recent problems with racism in football I decide to write a book about Arsenal and its vast array of world supporters. Why does someone in Africa support a team in England? What makes a person in Australia get up in the middle of the night to watch a live game from North London? Why would an Italian from Turin support Arsenal and not Juventus? Why would any American follow the current English football champions and not the winners of the "World Series" in baseball?

What I would like are any supporter's stories of when and how they became Arsenal fans? Was it a player, the color of the shirts or seeing them on TV that made them choose? What made them choose Arsenal as opposed to any other club? To what extremes do they go to watch the team? How do they show their allegiance in their part of the world? Have they ever visited Highbury? Basically anything which tells us why Arsenal is their club. If there are any photos which can be attached this will also add to the story.

Anyone who contributes will have their story and name mentioned in the book.

I can be contacted by e-mail on chrisathanasi at hotmail.com

Kind regards,
Chris Athanasi

I grew up in North London. I saw Charlie George score a penalty in 71 and I was hooked. I am Arsenal through and through and have signed letters from Don Howe, George Graham, and Arsene Wenger. The old Tottenham games were amazing! I emigrated in '92 and will be at Navada's to see the Bayern Game. I live in NC but am visiting for a week....Cheers,
Robert...

I (Debra) have supported Arsenal practically all my life. My Dad would often tell me how at
1 1/2 years old I would scream Arsenor Arsenor when we used to walk under a subway in Hendon. By the time I was old enough to be able to say Arsenal it was the shirts and the fact that the word arse was in the name Arsenal that struck a cord with me!

I was a standing season ticket holder during the 80s and used to often get on all the footy programs as I used to stand right by the North East corner flag. I often took my teddy bear "Rixy" (named after Graham Rix)he was decked out in full kit and I would wear a long Doctor Who type red and white scarf and I would use a small football rattle! The lads in the North Bank would sometimes sing "Teddy give us a wave teddy teddy give us a wave"! The last game I attended was at home to Coventry in 1990 or 1991. I can no longer afford to go to matches but as I live not too far from the training ground I may take in some youth games as I was told about the games there when I was there recently with another teddy bear of mine waiting for the players to finish training so I could get a photo with some of them holding Bearsac in a photograph for his website. He will tell you about it.

I'm Bearsac and I am a bit of a celebrity where we live in Borehamwood. I talk to people in public via the mediumship of Debra and have my own website www.bearsac.com

I am a Gooner bear and have met a few Arsenal players who appear in my "Bearsac Meets Celebrities" page along with some other famous people. I like to travel and have have been on TV a few times although just in the audiance. I was once on Sky Sports News for about 2 minuets with my giant pal "Tiny" at Islington Town Hall when we won the Championship 03/04 season.
